What a Toronto food-premises pest citation means for a pest-control firm

When Toronto Public Health cites a food business for pests, the inspector wrote a fixed line in the public record. That line is a lead signal — not a signed service contract.

What the City requires

Toronto Public Health says every food premises should have a pest control plan. The Ontario Food Premises Regulation requires every food premise to be protected against the entry of pests and kept free of conditions that lead to harbouring or breeding of pests. The City recommends consulting a licensed pest control operator.

The City's "Eight Steps to a PASS" list also tells operators to cover openings, remove food and water sources for pests, consider a contract with a licensed pest control operator, and keep pest-control records on site for the last 12 months.

What the citation wording usually means

We show the inspector's exact wording, severity (Minor / Significant / Crucial) and inspection result (Pass / Conditional Pass / Closed) so you can decide which places to call on.

A citation does not always mean the place has an active infestation. Read the line before you drive.

How fresh the public record is

The City says inspection results are usually posted within 24 to 36 hours. Weekend inspections are posted by end of day Monday. We send what is new in each morning's open-data file.
